My Sewing Adventures

Sewing is yet another of my domestic passions.  I first learned to sew at around 10 years of age via my mother and my membership in our home-town 4-H Club, the Four Leaf Clovers.

When my sister and I were small, my mother would sew us summer outfits and other items, and I loved to observe and learn.  She had stacks of fabric and an expandable wooden sewing box.  I loved to play with and explore her sewing box contents in sheer fascination (and received many a scolding for doing so as well because I'd usually leave it a disheveled mess).  I loved that box. Someday, I'd like to have one just like it.  :)

Someday, I'd like to also have a sewing or craft room, where all my supplies are neatly organized and easily accessible.  But for now, I suppose I'll settle for a corner of our walk-in closet and lugging my old sewing machine and supplies to the dining room table.  Maybe someday, I'll have the craft room of my dreams. We all have dreams, don't we?

Lately, I'm having a lot of fun pouring through my fabric stash and creating cute dress and skirt ensembles for my daughter.  I love to see her excited smile and the way her eyes dance with joy when she sees what I've made for her.  Much like I loved to watch my mother sew, she does the same.  I've even granted her limited access to my pin cushion, scissors and scraps of fabric, so she can pretend to make her own creative designs.  She likes to pin a few pieces of fabric together and asks me to sew them in very specific spots. Her creations may look like jumbled, mismatched scraps to the naked eye, but to her, they are treasures.  So far, she's made a cape, a belt and a wig. I love to indulge in and encourage her imagination.  She is just too stinking adorable!
