In my fabric bin of long-forgotten treasures, I re-discovered two yards of yellow fabric printed with lady bugs and daisies. What a perfect ode to a child's summer! What better way to use it than to create an adorable sundress for my daughter! It was super simple to sew. It took less than an hour to assemble, actually. And better yet... my girl finds it both cute and comfortable!
I took 1 1/2 yards of material and sewed both vertical ends to make it one continuous circle. Then I folded in the top edge about 6 inches, sewed two horizontal sleeves to insert elastic (one on top--leaving 1/2 inch along the very top of the dress--and another elastic sleeve about 3-4 inches below the top one) and slid in the elastic to gather the top to form a bodice. I then sewed on a wide bottom border of coordinating red handkerchief fabric. And finally, I sewed two arm straps made from the same red fabric with elastic running through the center of each to create a ruffled effect on the outside of each strap.

I just love the summery print of the fabric, but I love her missing-tooth smile the most!
